The Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers have faced each other three times since the Luka Doncic trade. The Nuggets have been blown out twice.
It’s fair to consider this an entirely different matchup than the one the Nuggets previously faced. Luka’s simply a far better player than Davis, and more importantly, he attacks the Nuggets in more impactful ways than Davis ever could. The Nuggets will no longer be the favorites in a playoff series vs Los Angeles this year, and perhaps that’s for a good reason. Can Denver still compete with Los Angeles in a playoff context? They haven’t exactly shown a lot of confidence in doing so.
On the latest episode of Pickaxe and Roll, Ryan Blackburn discusses the Denver Nuggets 120-108 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers that wasn’t as close as the score indicated. The Nuggets reserves made a comeback in the fourth quarter, but Denver was down 30 for parts of the game. Without Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray, Denver’s honeymoon period was over as Luka Doncic went right at Michael Porter Jr. and the Nuggets relentlessly.
Ryan discusses the loss, what it means for the standings, and when Jokic and Murray will be back.
