Chargers Cut Candidates

According to Over The Cap, the Los Angeles Chargers have just over $66 million in cap space which is the fifth-most in the NFL.

1. Joey Bosa, EDGE

When he’s healthy, Bosa is one of the most disruptive players in the league. His mix of power, quickness, and technique leads to nightmare fuel for opposing offenses. Injuries have been a factor in recent years, however, and Bosa has played in just 28 of 51 possible contests over the last three seasons. He’s had only 14 sacks and 13 assists in that time frame, and for a player with such a massive salary, that production level doesn’t quite justify his cost.

2. Trey Pipkins, G

The interior offensive line was a mess last season for Justin Herbert and according to Spotrac’s Michael Ginnitti:

“The Chargers moved Pipkins inside to guard A) because they had a hole there, and B) to accommodate newly drafted OT Joe Alt. The move inside didn’t go particularly well for Pipkins, who now enters 2025 on a non-guaranteed 1 year, $6.75M deal. There are more than a few teams looking for short-term options at tackle this March, and Pipkins could very well be in those conversations.”

Pipkins’ hefty contract along with his struggles last season makes it seem unlikely teams will be lining up to trade for him, so letting the guard go could be in the cards this offseason.

3. Ja’Sir Taylor, CB

Cutting Taylor wouldn’t be for monetary purposes since the move would only save around $1 million, but the Chargers may want to move forward without this leftover Brandon Staley draft pick. Taylor has been underwhelming since being selected in the sixth-round of the 2022 NFL Draft, even when the entire defense took a step forward last season under defensive coordinator Jesse Minter.
