Jose Mourinho could be in a different dugout next season amid speculation over his future.
The Portuguese has endured a tumultuous campaign at Fenerbahce and has led to speculation he could leave.
Mourinho has made several trips to Saudi Arabia, having attended the Formula 1 and Anthony Joshua vs Francis Ngannou fight this yearMark Robinson/MatchroomHe was forced to deny he had held talks over becoming the new Portugal boss, but has still not confirmed if he will be in Turkey next season.
Speaking on Sunday, he said: “Yes, I can deny that I had any meeting with the Portuguese Football Federation. I am a loyal person.
“The only time I had direct contact with a club I informed Fenerbahce. It wasn’t now, it was in January. I had a meeting with the [unnamed] club. I didn’t accept the offer. But I informed my club even before the meeting.”
Mourinho did not reveal who that unnamed club was, but there has been plenty of speculation over a return to the UK.
Leeds are believed to be a surprise option, while talkSPORT’s Alan Brazil thinks the Rangers job could tempt him.
Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal have been long-time admirers.
This, of course, is nothing new for ‘The Special One’. Just last summer he held talks over becoming manager of Saudi Arabian club Al Qadsia.
The Portuguese had then been out of work since January 2024, when he parted company with Italian club Roma.
Al Qadsiah had only just been promoted to the Saudi Pro League after claiming the Saudi First Division title.
Mourinho has taken charge of 10 clubs in his 24-year managerial careerGettyMourinho was even in the Gulf State speaking at the Sync Summit on a two-day trip to Saudi city Al Khobar.
He is understood to have met with some of Aramco’s most influential figures, including CEO Amin Nasser, Qadsiah project leader Nabil Aljama and Qadsiah board member Faisal Alnughaimish.
Ultimately, Mourinho did not become their manager and instead took a two-year deal with Fenerbahce.
However, don’t rule him out of going to Saudi at some point.
Speaking in 2023 during his time as Roma manager, Mourinho said he will ‘definitely’ work in Saudi Arabia at some point in his career.
He added: “Doors are always open for me in Saudi Arabia. I want to feel the development there.
“Cristiano was the first to go there and give a different perspective immediately. The players thought at first that it was a one-man show but they realised in the summer that everything was really changing.
Mourinho’s future is still in doubtGetty“Many players, not just at the last period of their careers, but also some players at the best years of their careers, are coming because the competition is real, not just at domestic League, but also the AFC Champions League is very interesting.”
Having previously served as an assistant to Sir Bobby Robson at Sporting Lisbon and Barcelona, Mourinho really put his name on the footballing map by guiding Porto to UEFA Cup and Champions League glory in consecutive seasons.
On the back of Porto’s unlikely Champions League triumph in 2004, he got a move to Chelsea, where he guided them to a first league title in 50 years as well as the League Cup in his first season.
He left Chelsea in September 2007 having also won another Premier League title, another League Cup and an FA Cup.
The ‘Special One’ was appointed Inter Milan boss in June 2008, winning Serie A in both seasons at his club with the second campaign seeing Inter winning a league, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble.
Real Madrid followed and so did more success with Mourinho’s side winning the Copa del Rey in his first season, beating Pep Guardiola’s imperious Barcelona side in the final.

His second spell at Chelsea was not as prolific as his first, but he still won a Premier League title and the League Cup in his two-and-a-half years there.
Mourinho then went to Manchester United in the summer of 2016, winning a League Cup, Europa League and Community Shield in his two-and-a-half years at Old Trafford.
Just under a year after being sacked as Man United manager, Mourinho joined Tottenham in November 2019, although he was not able to win them a trophy. He guided them to the Carabao Cup final before getting the chop less than a week before in April 2021.
Mourinho then spent two-and-a-half years with Roma, where he won them the inaugural Europa Conference League in his first season at the club.
His Fenerbahce side finished second to Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig.
