The latest Birmingham City injury news as the club prepares to face Reading in their next League One fixture on Saturday (12:30pm)

Lyndon Dykes pulls up with an injury in Birmingham City’s draw with Reading

the 0-0 draw with Reading at the weekend.

Blues travelled to the Select Car Leasing Stadium without talisman Jay Stansfield after their 20-goal top scorer sustained a leg injury against Bradford City last week. They left Berkshire with a concern over Keshi Anderson’s fitness too.

Blues will hope for a boost or two on the injury front in this double gameweek. Leyton Orient visit St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park this evening and second-placed Wycombe Wanderers are in town for a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday.

Here is what Blues’ injury list currently looks like pre-Orient…

Jay Stansfield

Injury: Leg

It was initially thought Stansfield had injured his knee during an awkward landing in the Vertu Trophy semi-final versus Bradford, but Chris Davies revealed afterwards that it was actually the femur, the bone above the knee, where the pain occurred for the striker.

Stansfield underwent tests at hospital on Tuesday night which determined no bone or ligament damage.

“It’s a heavy knock to the leg,” said Davies. “It’s not ligaments, it’s not structural as such, but it’s a deep problem within the leg. That’s why it’s complicated.

“It really is one of those things where it’s how well he heals. We know he heals quite well from other instances that he’s had in his time at the club, so that’s positive.

“It’s not going to be months, it’s not going to be a few days, but it’s going to be somewhere in between and we have to hope day by day that he recovers quickly and doesn’t miss too many games.”

Marc Leonard

Injury: Knee

FA Cup fourth round tie on February 8.

The Scot was patched up in hospital and must now wait for the wound to heal before he can resume training.

Davies commented: “Marc is progressing well. He’s obviously had a deep cut to the knee and is going to get back training in the next week or so.”

Keshi Anderson

Injury: Hamstring

Anderson has become a key player for Blues this season and cemented his spot on the wing under Davies. The 29-year-old has registered six goals and six assists in his 34 outings this term and created the game’s gilt-edged chance on Saturday for Lyndon Dykes.

“Keshi has just tightened up at the end so we will see how he is,” Davies said afterwards.

Lyndon Dykes

Injury: Calf

Dykes pulled up on the run during Blues’ 0-0 draw with Reading and hobbled off the field. The Scotland international appeared to be in a lot of discomfort and will likely miss the game with Orient.

“Lyndon’s looks like a calf,” said Davies. “Where exactly it is we’re not sure but he’s felt something. It’s disappointing.”

Scott Wright

Injury: Knee

Wright’s studs got caught in the turf at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and he went down holding his knee with no one around him. Wright was given treatment on the field but he didn’t require a stretcher.

Davies. “They are testing his ligaments and stuff but we’ll just have to wait for the scan because you’re never quite sure.”

Lee Buchanan

Injury: Knee

Buchanan suffered a serious knee injury during the draw with Blackpool and will miss the remainder of the season. Davies said: “Lee’s injury is quite severe as everyone would have guessed. He will be out for a considerable amount of time with a bad knee injury, as you probably saw from the pictures, and he won’t be with us for this season absolutely.”

The left-back is back on his feet at Blues’ training ground, albeit with a knee brace in place, and in the early stages of his rehab.
