The Class 5A state-ranked No. 6 Roughriders won their ninth straight game to stay undefeated and in first place in the 5A/4 Longs Peak League standings. Roosevelt is 11-0 in the league and 17-3 overall. Severance is 4-9 and 6-14 and has lost five games in a row.
Union Colony 53, Bishop Machebeuf 24
Union Colony outscored the Buffaloes 29-5 in the first half of a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League win. Timberwolves junior Soliana Gebremeskel led all scorers with 5 points, her third straight game scoring at least 30 points. to lead all scorers. She’s averaging 25 points in 16 games. Gebremeskel’s season high is 49 points against the Dawson School in early January.

The Cubs moved to 11-1 in the 5A/4A Longs Peak League and 16-2 overall this season with their sixth straight win. Greeley Central is 5-8 in the league and 10-10 overall.
Dayspring Christian Academy 72, Clear Creek 6
The host Eagles outscored the Golddiggers 46-1 in the first half of a 3A/2A/1A Mile High League game. Dayspring is 7-4 in the league and 9-10 overall. Clear Creek is winless in 17 games.
Boys basketball
Severance 64, Roosevelt 32
The league-leading Silver Knights outscored Roosevelt 37-15 in the first half on the way to a win Thursday in a 5A/4A Longs Peak League game. Severance is 12-1 in the league and 15-5 overall. Roosevelt is 7-6 in the league and 11-9 overall.
Timnath 63, Greeley Central 31
Timnath dominated from the start, outscoring the Wildcats 18-5 in the first quarter of a 5A/4A Longs Peak League game. Timnath, 9-3 in the league, is in second place behind Severance. The Cubs are 12-6 overall. Greeley Central is 4-9 and 6-14.
Dayspring Christian Academy 45, Clear Creek 35
The Eagles evened their 3A/2A/1A Mile High League record to 6-6 with a win over the Golddiggers.
Bishop Machebeuf 80, Union Colony Prep 44
The Buffaloes remained undefeated in the 3A/2A/1A Mile High League after a home win over Union Colony. Bishop Machebeuf is 12-0 in the league and 14-2 overall.
Prairie 46, Caliche
Prairie moved into second place in the 1A North Central League with a win Thursday over Caliche.
State wrestling
Female wrestlers from University and Severance, five Highland High School boys and three previous boys state champions advanced to the semifinals at the state tournament following matches Thursday at Ball Arena in Denver.
University’s McKinlee Collett reached the girls semifinals at 190 pounds in Class 4A after a 4-2 decision over Atlee Brooks of Skyview.
Also at 4A, Severance’s Faith Vondy advanced in the girls tournament at 135 following a 9-7 decision against Olivia Herrera of Brush.
Fort Lupton’s Alyssa Solis-Ornelas reached the 130-pound 4A semifinals after a 7-4 decision over Eleanor Thorson of Canon City.
Returning boys state champions Chris LaLonde (Roosevelt, 4A 144), Drake VomBaur (Severance, 4A, 113) and undefeated Evan Perez (Windsor, 4A, 215) all reached the semifinals scheduled for Friday evening.
LaLonde, who won a title two years ago at 126, pinned Severance’s Reed Green in 1-minute, 20 seconds of their quarterfinal on Thursday.

VomBaur (37-5 this season) won the 4A 106-pound title last year as a freshman.
Perez, a junior with a 39-0 record heading to the semifinals, beat Thompson Valley’s Landry Suarez on a pin in 24 seconds of their quarterfinal. Perez won a state title at 165 pounds two years ago as a freshman. He finished third at 190 last year.
Other results from the quarterfinals:
In Class 2A, Highland wrestlers Korbin Hoke (120), Carter Jensen (126), Tyler Varra (138), Wyatt Chase (175) and Ira Sittner (190) all reached the semifinals.
Greeley Central’s 106-pounder Daniel Romero also reached the semifinals in the 4A tournament via a fall. Romero, a junior, pinned Eden Cobos Ortega of Lewis-Palmer in 1:47.
In Class 3A, Eaton junior Blake Hawkins also earned his way into the 113-pound semifinals. Hawkins, 43-5 this year, pinned Delta’s Cha Pla in 90 seconds. Hawkins is scheduled to take on Wellington’s Benjamin Gomez in the semifinals.

At 132, Eaton’s Dylan Paris and Platte Valley’s Logan Vannest won quarterfinal matches. Paris decision Middle Park’s Tanner Hoover, and Vannest won on a pin over Samuel Trujillo of Abraham Lincoln.
At 138, Fort Lupton’s Josiah Gonzales beat Zach Benson of Gunnison 16-9.
At 150, Valley’s Garrett McGirl earned a major decision over La Junta’s Santos Nunez. McGirl’s Valley teammate, Nehemiah Whaley, won at 157 with a decision over Mason Schoeppner of Grand Valley.
At 165, Valley’s Rocky Hoffschneider beat Holy Family’s Fisher Reenan on a technical fall 16-0.
Eaton’s Paxton Pettinger also moved on at 157 with a pin over Mullen’s Cooper Loth in 51 seconds.
At 190, Eaton’s Cal Sidwell advanced on a technical fall 17-2 over Riley Tuck of Brush.
University’s Connor Simonds is into the 285 semifinals on a technical fall over Hayden Kenney of The Classical Academy, 18-8.
