Double Play is a side game that takes place after the regular Powerball draw.

Players just have to fork out one extra dollar and they can try their luck, using their same numbers, for a second time.

One player scored a $10 million prize after matching all six numbers.

Monday night’s win marked the first time since June 2024 that a Powerball player had won the top prize on the Double Play game.

There have only been five winners on the Double Play game.

Two players in Florida won the Double Play prize in 2022, and one did in Maryland back in 2021.

Lotto chiefs in Mississippi have gushed over the big win.

“This is a milestone for the Mississippi Lottery,” said Jeff Hewitt, the Mississippi Lottery President.

“Not only do we have our first Powerball Double Play top-prize winner, but this is also the largest lottery win in our state lottery’s history.

“It’s an exciting day for players and retailers.”

In Mississippi, players have 180 days from the date of their draw to claim prizes for multi-state games.

So the clock has started ticking for the $10 million ticket holder.

They will have to pay a rate of 24% to the federal government.

But the deductions do not end there.

They will also have to pay state taxes, which are a rate of 3%.
