SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- A series of storms continues to roll through the San Francisco Bay Area on Tuesday, bringing heavy rain and strong winds. Rainfall Tuesday morning is resulting in spots of flooding on roads for the morning commute.
Pockets of heavy rain will continue on and off through the morning with a bit of a mid-day lull. Heavier rain and winds pick up again this afternoon, right in the middle of the evening commute.
A thunderstorm outlook is in effect for much of the Bay Area from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The outlook was issued as there is a 10% or greater chance for thunderstorms. “Storms are expected to be non-severe but we continue to monitor for any changes as winds pick up,” weather officials said just after midnight.
KRON4 Interactive Weather RadarA wind advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. through 8 p.m. for the San Francisco Peninsula coast and Santa Cruz Mountains, NWS said. South to southwest winds of 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected during the advisory.
A flood watch remains in effect for all of the Bay Area through 4 a.m. Wednesday.
Between Monday and Friday, the North Bay could see up to 4 inches of rainfall, with the greater Bay Area getting up to 3 inches. Higher elevations could receive up to 8 inches.
Looking ahead, Thursday’s rain will be colder and is expected to come along with feet upon feet of snow in the Sierra.
