Wildfires throughout southern California continue to impact many different communities with expensive damages.
Donations from large corporations, as well as National Football League Teams, have poured in to help support those affected by the fires.
Sempra, an energy infrastructure company, and Sempra Foundation pledged Friday up to $1 million in support. Sempra Foundation provided $750,000, while Sempra contributed $250,000 of shareholder value.
“We are grateful for the work of first responders and utility workers who are doing all they can to protect communities, and we are deeply saddened that so many have been displaced or lost their homes,” said Lisa Larroque Alexander, senior vice president at Sempra. “We are dedicated to supporting our communities and our people to help them recover.”
Sempra is not the only big corporation to pledge charitable donations.
Disney, based in Burbank, pledged Friday to donate $15 million to various relief efforts, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Variety reports that Paramount pledged $1 million, and AOL reports that FOX Corporation pledged $1 million as well.
Live sporting events have also been affected by the wildfires. Three NBA games have been postponed, and a NFL playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams and Minnesota Vikings was relocated to Glendale, Arizona in order to be played on schedule Monday.
The National Football League donated a combined $5 million Friday with the funds directed to local organizations providing support. The Los Angeles Chargers, Los Angeles Rams, Minnesota Vikings and Houston Texans joined the NFL in making the donation.
The southern California fires have burned more than 10,000 homes since Tuesday.
