Texas and Ohio State both had to play in the first round of the College Football Playoff last weekend, and the 2 teams will now face off in the Cotton Bowl after picking up wins in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday.

Quarterback Quinn Ewers threw a key interception that helped the Sun Devils get back in the game, but he also threw 2 of his 3 touchdowns in overtime to help the Longhorns get the win.
The Buckeyes entered their CFP quarterfinal matchup with Oregon looking for some revenge after the Ducks defeated them 32-31 during the regular season, and that is just what Ryan Day’s squad did.
Ohio State set the tone early, scoring the game’s first 34 points en route to the big victory. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith had a game for the ages, as he set an Ohio State freshman single-game record in receiving yards, breaking the previous mark set by Chris Carter.
Despite being 2 of the top CFP programs in the country, Texas and Ohio State haven’t faced off many times throughout their history. The CFP semifinal will be only the fourth time they have played, with the Longhorns winning 2 of the games. The last time these 2 teams played was in the Fiesta Bowl in 2009 when the Longhorns won 24-21.
