The final series of the popular ITV crime drama Vera, based on books by Ann Cleeves, draws to a close this New Year with two feature-length episodes.
Blethyn said she had decided to leave the show in summer 2023, to spend more time with her family, and details of the final series were announced in April this year.

Both will also be available to stream on ITVX, along with series one through to 13.

The renowned film, theatre, and television actress has played the part for fourteen series but decided to quit to spend more time with her family.

The award-winning actress, 78, has starred in a string of major films including Secrets & Lies, Little Voice, A River Runs Through It, Saving Grace and Atonement.
David Leon
David Leon stars as DI Joe Ashworth in Vera (Photo: Helen Williams/ITV)He has returned from his time with the Met and Greater Manchester Police but is struggling with grief.
And he has worked as a director on both Vera and Man and Boy.

The Scottish actor has also appeared in a number of other crime series including The Bill, Bergerac and Taggart.

She also took on the role of Lauren in the British drama series Maryland.

“So that everyone feels like they own the show. So that everyone goes, ‘I feel like a part of it.’ And that’s what we want.
Vera’s police headquarters, Northumberland and City Police Station, is set in Newcastle.
