The Women's Scottish Cup final took place on Sunday, with Rangers emerging victorious over Hearts with a score of 2-0. This highly anticipated match showcased the talent and determination of both teams as they battled it out for the prestigious cup.
Rangers demonstrated their skill and teamwork throughout the game, with goals from Brogan Hay and Kirsty Howat securing their victory. The players showed great technique and composure under pressure, outplaying their opponents and dominating possession.
For the former England internationalist this was a necessary triumph. Having failed to claim a title that settled in Celtic’s favour on goal difference, this was not a game that she could afford to lose.
“It was very important for us,” said Potter. “There is no hiding the fact that if we didn’t win that game then the outcome of the season looks very different. If you go away with one Cup win but not winning the league or the other Cup final that you are in, it would feel very differently, even on just one game.
Victoria Esson was able to intercept.
The game exploded into life seconds after though when right-back McLauchlan ran to the edge of the area and riffled her side into the lead with an outstanding strike from 25-yards out.
The Jambos’ best chance of the first half fell to Carly Girasoli. She got her head to Sade Adamolekun’s corner, but her header was straight at Gers keeper Victoria Esson.
Rangers were pushing for a second goal just before the interval and Kirsty Howat almost provided it. Hearts lost possession in a dangerous area and when Hay flicked the ball on to Howat, it was an excellent covering challenge from Emma Brownlie to put the striker off, resulting in her effort flying off target.
Eva Olid’s side reminded Rangers of their own offensive threat when a seemingly innocuous floated free-kick landed at the feet of Girasoli on the right-hand byline and her flashed effort required Esson to tip around the goal for a corner.
However, Rangers put the icing on the cake with four minutes remaining when Rowe took her time to lift her head and lay a pass into Arnot who guided a first-time finish into the bottom corner to ensure the Scottish Cup would don red, white and blue ribbons.
