Manchester United 4-2 Sheffield United

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Manchester United put on a dazzling display of attacking football to secure a 4-2 victory over Sheffield United. The Red Devils started the game with intent, pressing high up the pitch and creating numerous chances in the opening minutes.

It was no surprise when Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a clinical finish after some intricate build-up play. However, Sheffield United showed resilience and equalized through a well-taken goal from Billy Sharp.

Rasmus Hojlund four minutes later to move his side up to sixth spot and earn praise from his manager.

"He showed his leadership," said Ten Hag.

"He tried to encourage the team and he is also in good form. We put him in the right position and when he is there, he makes the right decisions.

"He can create a lot, score, assist and make key actions. We are very happy with his performance and his attitude."

The Reds found a reply under 10 minutes later when Garnacho collected a Fernandes free-kick on the left flank. He swivelled and sent an inswinging cross back into the penalty area that was expertly glanced beyond Foderingham by Maguire, supplying a well-deserved equaliser before the break.

Garnacho almost provided the lead seconds later, with a close-range effort, but it was kept out well with a reactive save by the outstanding Foderingham.

Throughout this turbulent period, Fernandes has at times seemed to wage a one-man battle to keep United afloat, eight goals in as many games testament to his influence and sheer force of will.

Bournemouth and Coventry in recent weeks his goals had a huge bearing on the outcome of the game and now Ten Hag can add Sheffield United to that list, Fernandes impervious to the struggles of others around him to grab this game by the scruff of the neck and turn defeat into victory against the division’s bottom club.

Without a win since February, Sheffield United led twice, through Jayden Bogle in the first-half and Ben Brereton Diaz in the second.

Harry Maguire's deft header pulled the home side level on the first occasion, before Fernandes took control.
