Inter Milan clinched the Serie A title with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over AC Milan in a thrilling match that showcased the best of Italian football. The Nerazzurri showed their dominance throughout the season and sealed their triumph with a gritty performance against their city rivals.
The match was intense from start to finish, with both teams giving it their all in pursuit of victory. Inter took the lead early on through a goal from Romelu Lukaku, but AC Milan fought back and equalized through Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, Inter showed their championship-winning mentality and regained the lead thanks to a goal from Christian Eriksen.
England's Fikayo Tomori headed in from close range to give Milan brief hope.
There were three red cards in injury time as tempers boiled over. Milan's Theo Hernandez and Inter's Denzel Dumfries were sent off for their part in a brawl and the hosts ended with nine men as captain Davide Calabria was sent off for violent conduct.
Inter players and coaches ran on to the pitch to celebrate at the final whistle at the ground both sides share, although Milan were the home side for this fixture.
Inter took an 18th-minute lead through Acerbi's goal and then four minutes into the second half Thuram placed a low shot to double the lead.
Milan started a late comeback with Tomori reducing the deficit in the 80th minute from a rebound but they could not find an equaliser to delay their rivals' joy.
In stoppage time, tempers flared as a scuffle broke out between the players which resulted in Dumfries and Hernandez both being shown red cards.
Matteo Gabbia's header onto his post, but Tomori nodded in the rebound before grabbing the ball and gesturing frantically to his teammates as he raced back to the center circle, desperate to get the equaliser that would prevent Inter from securing the title.
As tempers flared, a scuffle broke out in stoppage time and Milan's Theo Hernandez and Inter defender Denzel Dumfries were sent off. Calabria was also shown a red card moments later following another scuffle.
The first two of those wins came as Lazio coach, defeating Juventus on both occasions. The following three wins have come against Juventus, AC Milan and Napoli respectively.
Last season the former Lazio coach also led Inter Milan to a second Coppa Italia title in as many years, beating Fiorentina 2-1 in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico.
That was Inzaghi’s third Coppa Italia win. His first Coppa Italia win came as Lazio coach in 2018/2019, after a 2-0 win over Atalanta. It was Inter’s 9th Coppa Italia title overall.
