In a thrilling match at the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal secured a convincing 4-1 victory over Newcastle in the Premier League. The Gunners put on a dominant display of attacking football, with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, and Alexandre Lacazette sealing the win for Mikel Arteta's side.
The match started off with Newcastle taking an early lead through a goal from Joe Willock, but Arsenal quickly responded with an equalizer from Aubameyang. From then on, it was all Arsenal as they controlled possession and created numerous scoring opportunities.
Newcastle into submission only matched by the quality and precision of their attacking play. Bukayo Saka’s weaving third after the hour-mark belatedly gave Arsenal some breathing space following an opening 45 minutes of utter domination.
Galeno broke the deadlock with a right-footed shot into the far corner four minutes into added time. His strike from outside the area came in what was supposed to be the final minute of stoppage time at the Estadio do Dragao.
“I think the credit for that goal goes to the whole team, for what they did in the 90 minutes,” Galeno said. “We played well, we defended well, we left all our energy on the pitch. We will try to replicate in London what we achieved here. We will try to stay solid and give our best, as we always do.”
The Brazilian forward, who had hit the post in the first half, was named the man of the match.
surprise given it’s a Norway captain, former Italy captain, and future England captain against a Brazil star, a (very promising) academy teenager, and a local sparkplug who isn’t renowned for his technical skill in possession.
Declan Rice and Jorginho have been terrific and David Raya thwarted a Miguel Almiron breakaway when Newcastle threatened to narrow the gap.
It would’ve been white flag territory on another day, as Eddie Howe’s 4-5-1 out-of-possession alignment did very little for 40 of the 45 minutes. Howe could look to Harvey Barnes, Jacob Murphy, and/or ex-Gunners mid Joe Willock to try and shake up the second half.
