Wayne Northrop, 'Days of our Lives' star, passed away at 77

Wayne Northrop, renowned for his portrayal of Roman Brady in the iconic soap opera *Days of Our Lives*, passed away at the age of 77 after a six-year struggle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease . His career spanned various television series, including notable roles in *Dynasty* and *L.A. Law*. However, it was his extensive work on *Days of Our Lives*, where he appeared in over 1,000 episodes as both a detective and a doctor, that solidified his legacy in American television history . Northrop's contributions to the industry were significant and will be remembered by fans and colleagues alike.

The actor died in Los Angeles at the Motion Picture and Television Woodland Hills Home on Friday, Nov. 29, six years after being diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.

“He took his last breath in the arms of his family,” Northrop’s wife, actress Lynn Herring Northrop, 66, shared in the statement.

“We wish to thank the most caring and amazing place, the Motion Picture and Television Home for taking such great care of him,” she continued. “Wayne touched so many people with his sense of humor and wit. A husband for 43 years, the best dad ever to his two boys, Hank and Grady, and a rancher who loved his cows and was a friend to many.”

Wayne, who was passionate about wildlife and conservation causes, purchased a working cattle ranch in Raymond, California, with wife Lynn in the late ’80s. In 2008, they purchased the oldest house in Raymond, built in 1886, and converted it into a museum that is now on the registry of historical places.

Northrop's passing marks a poignant moment for the entertainment community, especially as he is recognized as one of the original actors to portray Roman Brady . His wife, Lynn Herring Northrop, confirmed that he died peacefully surrounded by family. In addition to his television accomplishments, Northrop was also involved in ranching and conservation efforts alongside his wife. He is survived by two sons and a stepmother .
