The upcoming clash between Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City at the AMEX Stadium promises to be an intriguing encounter, particularly given City's recent struggles. The team has faced three consecutive defeats, including a significant 4-1 loss to Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League . This downturn has led to questions about their form and ability to compete effectively, especially with key players like Rodri sidelined for the season due to injury. Brighton, on the other hand, despite being winless in their last three matches, is energized by its attacking prowess and aims to exploit any defensive lapses from City.
The reigning champions have been beaten by Tottenham in the EFL Cup, Bournemouth in the league and Sporting CP in the Champions League in their last three games.
One concern will be that City have conceded the first goal in five of their 10 Premier League games this term. It’s the first time they’ve done so in as many as half of their opening 10 games in a campaign since 2006-07 (also five).
Guardiola may apportion some of those issues to injury struggles, though. John Stones, Jack Grealish, Oscar Bobb, Rúben Dias and Rodri are all long-term absentees.
Brighton & Hove Albion possible starting lineup: Verbruggen; Veltman, Van Hecke, Igor, Estupinan; Kadioglu, Hinshelwood, Baleba, Mitoma; Rutter, Welbeck
Manchester City possible starting lineup: Ederson; Walker, Akanji, Ake, Gvardiol; Kovacic, Gundogan; Savinho, Foden, Doku; Haaland
Visiting Brighton is never a straightforward task and Fabian Hurzeler's side will push Man City to their limits at the AMEX Stadium. Despite failing to win any of their last three outings - including two defeats to Liverpool - the Seagulls have the energy, intensity and attacking firepower to punish any sloppiness in the Cityzens squad.
Brighton were beaten twice by Liverpool last week, but the Seagulls played with credit in both the Premier League and EFL Cup tie and Fabian Hurzeler’s men look capable of causing City problems in this one. Brighton have lost only 1 game at the Amex this season, and the Seagulls have beaten Manchester United and Tottenham on the south coast and there is enough in the odds to side with Hurzeler’s team.
