Jimmy Johnson enshrined into the Dallas Cowboys Ring of Honor

Jimmy Johnson, the legendary football coach, was recently enshrined into the Dallas Cowboys' prestigious Ring of Honor. This honor is reserved for individuals who have made significant contributions to the success and legacy of America's Team. Johnson's induction is a testament to his remarkable coaching career and the impact he had on the Cowboys franchise.

During his tenure as head coach from 1989 to 1993, Johnson transformed a struggling team into a dominant force in the NFL. He implemented a revolutionary system that emphasized speed, athleticism, and discipline. Under his leadership, the Cowboys won back-to-back Super Bowl championships in 1992 and 1993.

Johnson was greeted by the Hall of Fame “Triplets” who headlined his Super Bowl teams — quarterback Troy Aikman, running back Emmitt Smith and receiver Michael Irvin — for the ceremony at halftime of Saturday night’s regular-season home finale against the Detroit Lions.

Johnson and Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones sat together on the stage, answering questions from the media but also sharing stories and memories of their time together.

"This happened because it's the right thing to do," Jones said. "That's not a difficulty of credit; it's just the right thing. You say, 'Why has it lasted so long?' I say this today, he's going in because it's the right thing to do. He was always going in the Ring of Honor."

Johnson's wait for the Ring of Honor had become contentious among fans and even former players. Jones said at Johnson's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2020 that the coach would be added to the Ring of Honor. He just never said when.

"I will agree that somebody could've said, 'Jerry, shouldn't Jimmy have been in 15 years ago, 20 years ago?'" Jones said. "And you can say whatever you want about my reactions or frailties. I say this today -- he's there because it's the right thing to do. He was always going into the Ring of Honor whether I put him in or my kids put him in."

The induction of Jimmy Johnson into the Dallas Cowboys' Ring of Honor is well-deserved recognition for an exceptional coach whose contributions forever changed America's Team. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of players and coaches alike as they strive for greatness both on and off the field.
