The recent loss of the Philadelphia Eagles to the Seattle Seahawks has left fans and critics alike questioning the team's status among the NFL's elite. Once considered a powerhouse in the league, the Eagles have fallen from grace, struggling to find their footing and regain their former glory.
The game against the Seahawks showcased several glaring weaknesses in the Eagles' performance. The offense appeared lackluster, failing to generate any significant scoring opportunities. Quarterback Carson Wentz seemed out of sync with his receivers, resulting in numerous missed connections and turnovers. Additionally, the defense struggled to contain Seattle's explosive offense, allowing big plays and failing to apply consistent pressure on quarterback Russell Wilson.
The Eagles offense is far too talented to play as inconsistent as they have in recent weeks. Getting blasted by the 49ers and Cowboys was bad. Being stymied by a Seahawks defense that had been rolled over this season? Worse.
"You can point the finger at whatever," he said. "I didn't do a good enough job."
For the bulk of the season, the Eagles have been off in one form or another. One week, the defense is getting torched. Next, the offense can't find the on-button. For the early part of the season, Nick Sirianni's club made it work. The last three weeks, the inconsistencies have bitten them.
The Eagles led most of the game against the Seahawks but didn't score at all in the 4th quarter. That's when Seattle rallied from behind, scoring 10 points, including a huge touchdown in the final 30 seconds to seal the deal.
The Eagles went for a long pass with 13 seconds left but It was incepted as time ran out.
"Better play calling. Offensive play-calling," Pasto said.
Upsets happen in the playoffs, but December serves as the time when the elite emerge, finding another gear. Philadelphia lost two of their last three regular-season games last year, and a fat victory over the 49ers in the NFC championship game, at least as far as San Francisco fans were concerned, carried an asterisk because quarterback Brock Purdy was injured.
This, though, was a killer loss for the Eagles, who gave Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs a memorable battle in the last Super Bowl – and had big plans to go back. The Eagles (10-4) should still win their last three games, but nothing is sure now.
While it was a disappointing loss for the Philadelphia Eagles against the Seattle Seahawks, there were valuable lessons learned from this matchup. The team must address their offensive struggles and find ways to better protect Wentz while also improving their pass coverage on defense. With adjustments made in these areas, they can bounce back stronger in future games.
