NFL Week 8: Kansas City Chiefs loss infront of Denver Broncos 9-24

It's been so long since the Denver Broncos defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, the team doesn't even have a player in the locker room who played in that last win.

But after the Broncos finally ended their 16-game losing streak with a 24-9 victory at Empower Field at Mile High, the guy who had been in uniform for more of those losses to the Chiefs than any of his teammates couldn't have been happier.

"Man, it's a complete effort. ... Really proud of how the guys battled and played,'' said safety Justin Simmons, a third-round pick in the 2016 draft who is the Broncos' longest-tenured player. "... I get from the outside looking in that there's this streak, but every year, it is a new team. ... Some guys who have been here, myself having been here the longest, I'm just happy we won. Just feels good to win."

On Sunday, the Chiefs have an opportunity to extend a pair of streaks. First and foremost, a Week 8 win would give Andy Reid's group its seventh in a row since dropping the 2023 season opener against the Detroit Lions. Additionally, it would bring Kansas City's ongoing streak versus the Broncos to a staggering 17 games. The Chiefs, favored on the road, will look to keep the good times rolling.

Despite three first-half turnovers for the Chiefs, Mahomes and Co. still entered the fourth quarter trailing by just five points.

Twice, the Broncos failed to capitalize on opportunities in the second half, as they had a field goal blocked and took a sack to push themselves out of field-goal range early in the fourth quarter. The ensuing punt, though, changed the football game. Chiefs receiver Mecole Hardman muffed the Riley Dixon punt, and rookie inside linebacker Drew Sanders recovered the fumble to give Denver the ball at the Kansas City 10-yard line.

The Broncos defense looked stout at Arrowhead in Week 6, but they haven't played very well at home and are going to have a hard time containing a Chiefs offense that is on a hot streak. Denver may have pulled off their first home win of the season in Week 7, but Wilson only threw for 194 yards with one TD, which is just one reason the model is high on Kansas City to cover the spread in Week 8. In addition, Kansas City is 10-0 in its last 10 meetings against the Broncos and 11-5 against the spread in its last 16 contests against Denver.
