Wrexham vs Wigan(0-0),Ryan Reynolds team advances on penalty shootout to Carabao Cup 2nd round

Wrexham will face Wigan in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday at the Racecourse Ground. Both teams are looking to get their season off to a winning start, and they will be eager to make a statement in the EFL Cup.

Wrexham are playing in the EFL Cup for the first time since the 2007-08 season, and they will be looking to make the most of their opportunity. They have a strong squad and will be confident of causing an upset against Wigan.

Wigan are a League One side, and they will be a tough team to beat. They will be looking to make it to the next round with a win over Wrexham who have started their League Two journey with a defeat against MK Dons.

Ollie Palmer was given the Player of the Match award after a positive performance in the Wrexham attack, but even he could not find his way past Sam Tickle in the Wigan goal.

The Latics goalkeeper made six saves in the knockout tie, including a brilliant double save to keep out Jordan Davies. Wrexham goalkeeper Ben Foster was on the bench, but 36-year-old Mark Howard stepped in to keep a clean sheet.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney's side could now face a Premier League side in the next round of the competition with the draw taking place on Wednesday, August 9. Chelsea and Tottenham are two of the teams they could come up against

Another similar chance came and went for the hosts at the start of the second half. This time Bickerstaff's effort was blocked by Tickle and Jordan Davies was unable to make the most of the rebound as the Wigan goalkeeper again did enough to keep the ball at bay.

Wigan had a golden chance to snatch the win late in normal time but Charlie Wyke headed over from the center of the box in the 88th minute to leave penalties to decide who moved onto the second round.

Luke Young, Elliot Lee, Thomas O'Connor and Sam Dalby all converted their efforts for Wrexham to seal their progress.
