The Arizona Diamondbacks are signing right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford to a major-league contract, the team announced.
Additionally, the team is optioning reliever Juan Morillo to Triple-A Reno and designated left-hander Kyle Nelson.
Woodford has spent 2025 playing Triple-A ball for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (New York Yankees affiliate) and Iowa (Chicago Cubs). In 14 games (10 starts) between the two, the pitcher sported a 4.55 ERA and 1.451 WHIP with a 3-3 record across 61.1 innings pitched.

He added 59 strikeouts and 20 walks.
Woodford opted out of both minor-league deals with the Yankees and Cubs.
Woodford last pitched in the majors for the Chicago White Sox and Pittsburgh Pirates in 2024.
He went 0-6 with a 7.97 ERA and 1.629 WHIP in nine games (seven starts). He walked nine and struck out 26.

Morillo heads down to Reno after appearing in 28 games for the Diamondbacks so far in 2025.
The reliever has registered a 4.01 ERA and 1.541 WHIP across 24.1 innings pitched. He’s struck out 25 and walked 13.
Morillo’s most recent outing resulted in a blown save in Sunday’s 4-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. He went 0.1 innings, allowing a two-run double.
The D-backs are back in action Wednesday night against the Giants. First pitch is slated for 6:40 p.m. and can be heard on the Arizona Sports app, 98.7 and ArizonaSports.com.
