‘Not going to listen’ – Nick Kyrgios gives blunt verdict on Wimbledon’s controversial 148-year first ...Middle East

Nick Kyrgios has spoken out against Wimbledon moving away from having line judges for the first time ever.

This year, the iconic Grand Slam at SW19 does not have human judges on court, with electronic line calling used instead.

All England Club’s chief executive, Sally Bolton, explained that the decision was made after a ‘significant period of consideration and consultation’ before the tournament.

And organisers believed that this was the right time to take an ‘important step’ in helping improve accuracy.

However, the decision led to some controversy, as the changes led to all line judges losing their roles at Wimbledon.

The major change is something that former World No.13 Kyrgios was also opposed to, albeit whilst not against electronic line calling in tennis as a whole.

The Australian wants the oldest tennis tournament to remain traditional and wishes that nothing had ever changed since 1877.

Kyrgios gave his verdict on the removal of line judges, being asked by talkSPORT’s Hawksbee and Jacobs whether he will miss them and replying: “I will, I will.”

He then continued: “I actually had a conversation about this yesterday. I think Wimbledon should never change any rule.

“It should be the only tournament that holds every tradition that ever started in tennis. I think every other week can have electronic line calling, but I wish Wimbledon kept it the same.

“It’s been 148 years with human line calls. I think they could have got to 150 and done a big anniversary challenge.

“Personally, I think it would have been cool to have traditions of tennis never change at Wimbledon.

“But the tennis world’s not going to listen to me.”

Kyrgios thinks he won’t be listened to after giving his thoughts on how Wimbledon should operate.

And he may not be wrong with that claim, as one of the sport’s biggest icons disagrees with his stance.

He spoke on his viewpoint only a day after the legendary Billie Jean King called for a rule change at SW19.

Five-time All England Club champion King revealed that she has been ‘driven nuts’ by players having to wear all white and wants to see things now move away from that approach.

Since 1995, official ruling has demanded that both male and female players must wear ‘almost entirely white’ clothing.

But actually, Kyrgios, who was ruled out of this year’s Wimbledon through injury, would maybe welcome that change.

It goes against his ‘traditional’ plan that he wants at the tournament, but it would have saved him money in the past.

He was previously fined $16,000 for wearing a red hat and shoes during a game three years ago.

Kyrgios won’t have to worry about any fines this summer, with this being a third-straight Wimbledon he will have missed.

The Aussie star is instead watching on, keeping tabs on all the biggest stars and giving an expert insight into the tournament.

He recently opened up to talkSPORT about his ongoing struggles and gave some heartfelt advice to Emma Raducanu.
