The bowlers were largely criticized for their performance in Leeds, as the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, and Mohammed Siraj could not defend the target of 371 runs on Day 5 of the match against England.
At the end of Day 5, Bumrah was handed the ball by the Indian skipper Shubman Gill, who hoped to see some magic with the ball from his end. This raised concerns for Jamie Smith, who then launched his attack on Ravindra Jadeja, who bowled from the other end.
"You don't know what will happen. I always back our tail, but there could be a couple of decent balls, and suddenly you're eight down and the pressure's back on you again," added the English batter.
He smashed a few massive hits off Ravindra Jadeja's bowling to end the match early for England, before Bumrah could stir up any threat with the ball.
Jasprit Bumrah's five-wicket haul in Leeds
Despite several catches dropped by both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah didn't lose his mark and imposed a continuous threat on the opposition. In his second return spell, he dismissed Ben Duckett for 62 runs.
Harry Brook was dismissed in Bumrah's last over as well, only to be saved by a no-ball bowled by the Indian speedster. Bumrah picked the other two wickets with the English tail, where he cleaned up Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue to give India a 6-run lead at the end of the first England innings.
