Ever since he made his Test debut in 2018, just about everyone knew, Jasprit Bumrah was tipped to have great career. Little did we know, that he would soon be the best bowler in the world. At 31, with only 46 Tests under his belt, he has 210 wickets, at an average of 19, a strike-rate of 42, including 14 fifers.
Jasprit Bumrah — the Bowler in the World
In 2024 alone, he went on to pick up 71 wickets in 13 Tests, at an average of 14. That also includes 32 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar trophy, where he was the one-man army, in India’s bowling attack. No wonder, he is special, not only to India, but the world. This rarity has a lot to do with his hard work, and a bit to do with his bowling action..
But Injuries Have Stalled his Career
And that very bowling action makes him very susceptible to injuries. I mean, who would have imagined, that Jasprit Bumrah played his first Test in India, only in 2021. And, at home, till date has managed 12 matches, out of which last 10 came in 2024 only — vs England, Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Now, it becomes only worthwhile, to track as to how many injuries has he suffered so far in his career, and how many matches has he missed overall in his career. In what could have been his very first tour to England in 2018, he suffered a thumb fracture, and was ruled out of the entire series. Then in September 2019, a lower-back stress fracture saw him miss Test series’ against South Africa and Bangladesh.

All in all, Bumrah has missed 26 Tests till now, in his career, owing to injuries and rest. That is a staggering 36% of the total matches, India has played in that period — 72 in all. In the matches that he has played, India has won 20, and lost 22. While in the ones he is not around, India has won 18, and lost 5.
