It was so nice, they simply had to do it twice.
The hotly-anticipated rematch between Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn has been confirmed to take place on September 20 in London.
Benn and Eubank put on a show in LondonGettyEubank Jr prevailed in a thrilling encounter last April as he earned the nod on all three of the judges’ scorecard at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was an all-time classic and drew shades of their battle between their fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, 35 years ago.
The rematch will be promoted by Sela, Boxxer and Matchroom, with Spurs’ stadium once again in the pipeline to showcase the event.
Speaking to The Ring, Benn’s promoter Eddie Hearn believed Tottenham’s stadium is likely to play host to the blockbuster bout once more.
“Spurs is contracted – it’s a fantastic stadium and it worked extremely well the first time,” Hearn said.
“Obviously, it was sold out and this fight’s even bigger, so you could possibly look at Wembley to increase the capacity.
“But that will be a decision for His Excellency and Ring Magazine to make the final call.”
Although the news will be welcomed by boxing fans, Eubank Sr may not be one of them as he voiced his concerns over the rematch during a scathing rant on his YouTube channel.
He said: “These promoters do not know what they are talking about.
“I have heard them talk about ‘Oh Conor has had to go up in weight, so really he is the one in danger because he is fighting someone who is 160(lbs)’.
Eubank Jr will be expected to endure another serious weight cut for the rematchMark Robinson / Matchroom Boxing“The person who is 160 is really coming down from 175. He was not just weight drained, they put a rehydration clause in..
“They fined him $500,000 for coming in, I don’t know, two ounces over the weight…
“Junior wasn’t even sweating at the end of the fight, dehydration. These rules are in place to save my son. To save the lives of fighters..
“Unfortunately, the reporters, the journalists, are not doing their job…
“They are dangerous and they are reckless. If the Boxing Board of Control do not do what they are supposed to do, which is to block fights from happening which do not abide by the weights and the rules. You are baboons!
“What I am here to do is to protect, and they are uneducated against those, what did my son call them?
“Scum buckets. If that is the term he gave to promoters, he is not wrong. They are treating us like we are meat.
“They are butchering us. My son is not going to back down from anything. One, money. Two, the heart.”
