Arizona’s Trey Townsend to play for Pelicans in NBA Summer League ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

After he wasn’t selected in the 2025 NBA Draft, former Arizona forward Trey Townsend found a Summer League roster spot with the New Orleans Pelicans, Jon Chepkevich of DraftExpress reported.

The 6-foot-6 Townsend averaged 8.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game playing more of a supportive role for the Wildcats with guards Caleb Love, Jaden Bradley and KJ Lewis handling more of the offensive load.

He was previously Horizon League Player of the Year to end a four-year stint at Oakland, which culminated in an NCAA Tournament upset of Kentucky. Townsend scored 47 points over the two tournament games in that run.

He’ll join a squad that will likely include New Orleans draft picks Jeremiah Fears (No. 7 overall), Derik Queen (No. 13) and Micah Peavy (No. 40).

New Orleans has already filled one of its three available two-way slots, with Kansas center Hunter Dickinson reportedly agreeing to a deal after the draft.

Two-way deals, which allow players to develop with G League affiliates with up to 50 regular season NBA games, would be Townsend’s avenue to catching on with a team if he impresses in Las Vegas.

Townsend is one of three Arizona rookies slated to play in Las Vegas along with San Antonio Spurs No. 14 overall pick Carter Bryant and Portland Trail Blazers two-way signee Love.

The Pelicans begin Summer League play on July 10 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at 12:30 p.m. MST. The Phoenix Suns begin play one day later against the Washington Wizards.
