ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A 47-year-old elephant at the Seneca Park Zoo needed some help getting back on her feet Wednesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, June 25, the zoo says Genny C was pushed over by another elephant while at a feeding station and then fell to the ground. Both animal care and animal health staff were notified immediately and went to assist.
The zoo says due to her age and size, a crane was used to help her get back on her feet.
Although she is in stable condition, Genny C is being closely monitored by the zoo’s veterinary and animal care teams, the zoo says.
Genny C is one of the oldest African elephants in conservation care and has been at the Seneca Park Zoo since 1979.
