The Edison, as it will be called, will contain 378 apartments and 7,200 sq ft of shops. There will also be a suite of amenities, including gym, spa, swimming pool, sauna, sky lounge, dog park, movie room, garden and entertainment deck.
Image courtesy of C.D. Smith ConstructionThe building is being built by CD Smith Construction. According to the contractor, the use of timber will reduce embodied carbon by 54% and cut energy use by 45%. It also hopes to achieve Passivhaus certification.
Milwaukee is already home to the world’s tallest mass-timber building, the 25-storey, 87m-high Ascent Tower, which was completed in 2022.
The city currently has another tower in the works that may take the crown. This is an as-yet unnamed project located on North Water Street, and is also being built by Neutral.

Nate Helbach, Neutral’s founder, said: “Not only are we building a mass-timber building, but the façade is built to replicate the old stacked post-and-beam columns that once stood here in the 1910s and 1920s.”
