Ranking Mizzou’s 5 most-important newcomers for 2025 ...Middle East

The Missouri Tigers were active in the transfer portal this offseason. Big areas of need were at QB, RB and WR after losing Brady Cook, Luther Burden III, Theo Wease Jr., Nate Noel, Marcus Carroll and other key pieces from the 2024 roster.

Coach Eli Drinkwitz has shown he can rebuild a roster quickly, primarily through the use of the transfer portal.

After back-to-back 10-win seasons in Columbia, can Coach Drink and the Tigers keep the good times going? Who needs to step up if that’s going to happen?

Mizzou has another favorable schedule in 2025. But to take advantage of it, several newcomers, almost entirely guys coming in via the portal, need to have big 2025 seasons. Here’s a look at the 5 most-important newcomers at Mizzou for the 2025 season:

5. Keagen Trost, RT

Trost, a transfer from Wake Forest, will be tasked with replacing Armand Membou, who was a stalwart at right tackle for the Tigers the last couple of years. He was a top-10 NFL Draft pick this past April. That’s a tough act to follow, but Mizzou can’t afford to take too much of a step back at the right tackle position.

Trost began his college career at Morgan State in 2019, so he has plenty of experience. He should provide a decent 1-year stopgap at right tackle for Mizzou this fall. For a Tiger team that relies heavily on its rushing attack and just brought in a strong runner at quarterback (more on that in a bit), having an experienced veteran at right tackle is important. Even if he’s not a Membou-level player, Trost needs to be steady and avoid penalties this year.

4. Kevin Coleman Jr., WR

Kevin Coleman Jr. had 932 receiving yards for Mississippi State in 2024. He’s now with Missouri, but he’s still the SEC’s returning leader in receiving yards. He’s a dynamic playmaker who knows how to get open in the slot. He didn’t have a massive yards-per-catch average last year (12.59 YPC), but he should continue to rack up receptions and yards in Kirby Moore’s offense.

I don’t expect Coleman to be a perfect replacement for Luther Burden III, but when a guy can do stuff like this on the football field, it’s never a bad thing:

Mizzou needed a WR1 and the Tigers got one in Coleman.

3. Damon Wilson II, Edge

Damon Wilson II came over from Georgia this offseason. In 2024, he had a breakout showing, recording 3 sacks to go with 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries. The Tigers need an edge rusher to step up in place of Johnny Walker Jr. and Wilson figures to be that guy.

Wilson showcased strong initial burst off the line of scrimmage last year. In Mizzou’s defensive system, he should see his sack numbers increase this fall. If he can become an impact player defensively, another 10-win season for the Tigers could be in order.

2. Ahmad Hardy, RB

Ahmad Hardy led the Sun Belt in rushing last season and it wasn’t a particularly close race. He totaled 1,351 yards for Louisiana-Monroe. The next closest rusher was Troy’s Damien Taylor, who had 1,010 yards on the ground. Hardy was a freshman in 2024, too.

We’ve seen what Drinkwitz can do with featured running backs. See: Schrader, Cody and Badie, Tyler.

The Mizzou offense is built on running the football. Hardy has the chance to lead the SEC in rushing yards this year. It could (and should) end up being a fruitful partnership for multiple years.

Especially when you consider Mizzou also has a quarterback who is no slouch in the running game…

1. Beau Pribula, QB

In modern football, both at the college and NFL levels, you go as your quarterback goes. Pribula showed flashes of incredible ability during his time at Penn State, but he needs to develop more as a passer. (That’s no surprise, as he has only attempted 56 passes over 2 years for the Nittany Lions, completing 37.)

The good news? There’s no reason to assume he can’t take a major step forward with his passing game this fall, as he has posted solid numbers (9 TDs and only 1 interception) when he’s thrown the ball.

He has the aforementioned Coleman leading the receiving corps. With more consistency, Marquis Johnson can be a good No. 2 target. And TE Brett Norfleet should be ready to step into a bigger role, too.

The Tigers will go as Pribula goes. But with the weapons in place around him this season, there’s plenty of reason for optimism surrounding the Penn State transfer.
