BASKETBALL coach Dawn Staley has given her verdict on WNBA superstar Caitlin Clark.
Indiana Fever point guard Clark has been the talk of the sport since bursting onto the scene in college.

She holds the NCAA Division I record for most career three-pointers and the most points scored in a single tournament.
Clark also became the all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I basketball.
After graduating, she was drafted by the Indiana Fever and continued her incredible form, winning WNBA Rookie of the Year at the end of the 2024 season.
Now, just over one year on from her WNBA debut, South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Staley has offered her take on Clark’s incredible rise.
Speaking to Kylie Kelce on the Not Gonna Lie podcast last week, Staley said: “She’s quite incredible, quite an anomaly when it comes to how many eyeballs she’s bringing on the game, and new eyeballs.
“And the newness of those eyeballs — they only want her to do well. Only want you to speak very highly of her.
“Only want you to agree with what they agree with. And that’s kind of hard.
“We’re critics to everyone that plays the game. We’re critics.
“It is part of the fabric of sports. It’s part of athletics. It’s the competition. That’s what we do.
“You want to highlight Caitlin Clark for what she does well, but if you are her opponent then you want to zero in on the things she doesn’t do well.
“She’s a risk taker when it comes to passing the ball, so she’ll turn the ball over some – and that’s a great thing if you’re her opponent.
“As her opponent, you want to detract from the amount of highlights that she provides on any given night.
“She’s going to be great, it’s hard for her not to be great because she’s such a great player that can shoot the ball.”
Discussing the other key technical elements of Clark’s game, she added: “For me, the most dangerous thing of Caitlin Clark is her passing ability.
“Her ability to make other people better, and her ability to have other people’s production along with her production. That’s how you win.”
Calls were recently made to introduce better measures to protect players after Clark was targeted by some opponents.
Her former coach, Lisa Bluder said told TMZ: “They think that’s the way that they can stop her, is by physical dominance over her.
“It’s a part of the WNBA. It’s a part of the rules right now, and if we want that to change, I think we have to change the way the game is called.
“I think there needs to be more freedom of movement in our game.
“Which means, yes, calling more fouls, which people don’t like, but people will adjust. The players will adjust.
“If we start calling more fouls and emphasize the rules, the players will adjust, cause they want to be on the floor.”
