To paraphrase the song by Martha and the Vandellas, summer’s here and the time is right for dancing in the street. And on the beach. And at the fairgrounds. And at lots of other places in San Diego.

Friday marks the official first day of the summer, and if you’re looking for where the party’s at, guess what? It’s everywhere.

Between Friday and the end of summer on Sept. 22, there’s lots of concerts and festivals all over town to attend.

Here’s a look at some of the most notable – the fun starts this weekend. Additional information about each concert is available by clicking the links:

Now through July 6: The Toyota Summer Concert Series at the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar. The concerts, which are an annual fair tradition, attract huge names across a wide number of genres each year. Among those set to perform over the next few weeks include alternative rock band the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on June 26; reggae royalty Ziggy Marley on July 5, and Mexican norteño band Los Tucanes De Tijuana on July 6.

Now through Aug. 14: Santee Summer Concerts, a series of weekly free, family friendly concerts takes place Thursdays at Santee’s Town Center Community Park East. Music to be performed includes modern & classic country, soulful blues and country rock. Performances begin at 6:30 p.m. and end two hours later. Dogs are welcome.

Saturday through Aug. 23: The SeaWorld Summer Spectacular Concert Series. At 6 p.m. every Saturday through most of August (except July 5) some of the more recognizable names in rap, hip-hop and R&B are performing at SeaWorld’s Bayside Amphitheater. The scheduled shows include the I Love the 90’s Tour on Aug. 2 featuring a lineup of 1990s artists, including Color Me Badd, Rob Base, Treach (of Naughty by Nature) and Young MC; and the Turnt Up Tour on Aug. 23, featuring 2000s rappers Petey Pablo, Paul Wall, J-Kwon and Bubba Sparxxx.

This Independence Day-themed event, which features two stages near the Mission Beach boardwalk, is headlined by hip-hop artist Nelly (of “Hot in Herre” fame). Other artists on the bill include French DJ/producer Shiba San and dance music songstress Kaleena Zanders.

July 25-Aug. 23: SummerFest at the La Jolla Music Society. A total of 20 concerts are scheduled for this month-long classical/string music festival, and dozens of international musicians are scheduled to take part. Most are scheduled for the 481-seat Baker-Baum Concert Hall, with a handful at the more intimate The JAI.

Aug. 30-31: The Holo Holo Music Festival will celebrate island culture at Petco Park’s Gallagher Square. This year’s event features 15 acts, including Polynesian artist J Boog and San Diego-based urban reggae band Tribal Theory on Day 1.
