A second East County brush fire broke out Thursday, less than 10 miles south of the Monte Fire, which crews have been battling for two days.
Immediate evacuation orders have been issued by the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office for the area surrounding the 14000 block of Hawick Drive. Those fleeing the Hawick Fire should go to the evacuation center at Walmart, 13487 Camino Canada in El Cajon.
Roads within the evacuation zone include Rios Canyon Road, Calle de Ernesto, Legacy Court, Olive, Pine and Pecan terraces, Kelli Lane, Ruis Road, Pine Peak and Valley View Truck Trail. Rios Elementary School is on the northeastern edge of the zone.

Shortly after 3:45 p.m., the blaze had grown to 20 acres, with Cal Fire San Diego warning that flames were burning at “a dangerous rate of spread.”
The state agency had said about 25 minutes earlier that the blaze had ben moving at “a moderate rate of spread” while consuming 5 acres.
