Former USC Upstate outfielder Scott Campbell will close out his career at Kentucky.
On Thursday, the standout hitter gave his transfer commitment to the Wildcats, according to a report from On3’s Pete Nakos. Campbell was an All-Big South First Team selection this season, helping the Spartans make their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Campbell started 45 times in 55 appearances for the Spartans. He closed out the season with a .388 batting average, a .622 slugging percentage, and a .498 on-base percentage. He hit 11 home runs to go with 11 doubles and 54 RBI. In 188 plate appearances, he struck out 25 times. Campbell led all rotation players for USC Upstate in batting average and was second on the team in on-base percentage.
Coincidentally, Campbell’s final game as a Spartan came against his new team. In a loss to Kentucky on May 31, Campbell went 1-for-4 at the plate with 1 hit and 1 run scored.
The 6-foot, 185-pound junior began his career at Chattanooga State Community College, where he was a First Team All-Tennessee Community College Athletic Association selection as a sophomore. He posted a three-slash line of .360/.464/.545 with 68 hits, 7 home runs, and 61 RBI.
Campbell transferred to Charleston Southern for the 2024 season but missed the entire year after suffering an injury in the preseason.
Campbell becomes the third position player Kentucky has added from the portal so far this offseason. The Wildcats are up to 10 total transfer commitments. Kentucky went 31-26 this season and was bounced from the Clemson Regional via a 13-12 loss to West Virginia on June 1. Kentucky made its first-ever appearance at the College World Series in 2024 and will be looking to get back to Omaha next season.
