ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Advocates gathered Thursday at a Elder Justice Committee of Metro Justice meeting to speak out against substandard nursing home care.
Attendees shared personal stories of loved ones who suffered due to understaffing and neglect, resulting in both physical and emotional harm.
They also expressed concerns that neither nursing home administrators nor the state Department of Health are adequately protecting vulnerable residents.
“What do you want people to take away from today? We want them to feel empowered that they can go back to the nursing home and speak up for their loved ones and ask for better care and know what their rights are,” said Marydel Wypych, a member of the committee.
Participants encouraged members to advocate for their loved ones not only within nursing homes but also at the state level. They expressed gratitude to News10NBC for its investigations into nursing home care issues.
