The actor, 52, graced the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his new Amazon Prime Video series Countdown on Wednesday, June 18. This marked his first appearance since revealing his ALS diagnosis in April. Walking hand-in-hand at the event with photographer and filmmaker Janell Shirtcliff, the couple shared a series of smiles as they posed together on the carpet.
According to Entertainment Tonightreport that same day, Dane and Shirtcliff have been dating on and off for three years, though neither party has publicly confirmed their relationship status. Dane’s estranged wife, Rebecca Gayheart, filed for divorce from the Grey’s Anatomy alum in 2018. However, just before Dane revealed his ALS diagnosis in the Spring, Gayheart dropped the petition for divorce after being separated for seven years. The two continue to coparent their two children, Billie, 15, and Georgia, 13.
In an interview with Good Morning America earlier this week, Dane shared how he and Gayheart continue to support each other, giving an update on where their relationship currently stands. “I talk to her every day. We have managed to become better friends and better parents, and she is my — probably my biggest champion. My most stalwart supporter, and I lean on her,” Dane said tearfully.
Dane also revealed in the interview an update on his progression with the fatal disease. A year and a half since originally being diagnosed, he currently has "one functioning arm." He revealed his prediction for the next few months, revealing, "I feel like maybe a couple more months and I won’t have my left hand either. It’s sobering."
