Her 12-0 run revolutionised the sport, as ‘Rowdy’ established herself as one of the greatest female fighters in MMA history.

It was back-to-back knockout defeats to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes that preceded her premature retirement at just 29 years old.

Rousey stated that she suffered a serious concussion after falling down a flight of stairs ahead of her bout with Holm.

The condition was so severe that even minor strikes would rattle her, ultimately leading to her decision to retire after being defeated by Nunes via strikes in just 48 seconds.

And ‘Rowdy’ has opened up on how since that day, she has missed the structured life of an MMA fighter.

“I miss the training a lot,” Rousey suggested on the UNTAPPED podcast.

“The more separation you have from things, the more that you romanticise it, but I miss all the good things.

“For some reason, I really miss the process so much more. Everyone makes it so much about the actual accomplishment and that night.

The Olympic bronze medalist judoka revealed that she had struggled with concussion problems both prior to and throughout her notable MMA career.

After making such an impact on the MMA scene, her early retirement came as a shock to a lot of fans.

Since retiring in 2016, Rousey admitted she still misses the training and preparation for fights.

She explained how her concussions affected her in the octagon, saying: “I was playing a game of zero errors [in MMA]. Then it got to the point where I was fighting more often than anybody.

“I had more outside-of-fighting responsibilities than anybody, and it just got to be lighter and lighter hits were hurting me more and more and more.

“I got to a point where I couldn’t take a jab without getting dazed, without getting concussion symptoms. It just got to a point where it wasn’t safe for me to fight anymore. I just couldn’t continue to fight at that higher level.”

Almost a decade later, Rousey excited fans by sharing footage of her training MMA on social media.

Rousey shared that it’s not just the training she misses since retiring nine years ago, but it’s a lot of the little things as well.

She said: “I miss that puzzle-solving, if that makes sense.”

Ultimately the 37-year-old isn’t planning a stunning return to the Octagon and she continues to resist comeback talk, after building a life away from the UFC.
