On Saturday, the Prime Minister announced a full national inquiry into grooming gangs, stating that it was “the right thing to do” following a recommendation from Baroness Louise Casey.

The findings and recommendations from the report will be announced by home secretary Yvette Cooper in parliament on Monday.

Ms Harper added: “We’ve gone from January to a huge U-turn, and it’s because Louise Casey stood up for what’s right and told the truth.

The debate concerning grooming gangs, and the reaction taken by the authorities, was incited at the start of the year when Elon Musk accused the Prime Minister and ministers of negligence in their failure to act.

Maggie Oliver, a former Greater Manchester Police detective who resigned from the force in 2012 to unmask the Rochdale grooming scandal, called Labour’s plans “painfully inadequate”.

Baroness Casey’s case to hold an inquiry

After a reconsideration, the Prime Minister has since said that he had read “every single word” of Baroness Casey’s independent report and would approve her recommendation for the national inquiry.

“She’s looked at the material, and she has come to the view that there should be a national inquiry on the basis of what she has seen…and I’m going to accept her recommendation.”

The investigation into Rotherham grooming gangs had also been scrutinised by the Mayor of South Yorkshire, as Oliver Coppard called for a report on how it was handled by senior officers.

“It is what everybody is talking about, not just what the perpetrators did but the systematic failings as well. I think the whole child sexual exploitation is bigger than I know, and I think they were all scared to uncover it.”

Despite the length of time that has passed, Ms. Harper supports the inquiry in order to “understand the depth of what has happened to people in this country”. She continues: “It is one of the biggest scandals in history, and we deserve answers and correct information.
