“I didn’t want him to go into acting, but he loves it,” Stamos, 61, who shares his 7-year-old son, Billy, with wife Caitlin McHugh, told Us Weekly in an interview published on Saturday, June 14.
“He did his first play at the community center,” the Full House actor added. “He did Beetlejuice. The sandworm.”
“We took him to see Darren Criss last night [in Maybe Happy Ending], and he sat there and did not move. It was a great moment because Henry Winkler was there. He texted me yesterday. I didn’t even know he had my phone number. I walked into the theater and I see him and I couldn’t believe it, you know?” Stamos recalled, noting that Billy “walked onto the stage and started spinning around and ran through the theater.”
Ultimately, Stamos is grateful for parenthood and will support Billy’s dreams through and through. “I wanted to be a father my whole life, and I wasn’t ready,” the California native gushed. “I was confusing the universe with abusing substances. As soon as I [stopped], all my dreams came true with a beautiful wife and a fantastic son. He’s such a good boy.”
With Father’s Day coming up on Sunday, June 15, Stamos is looking forward to some father-son bonding—no matter what it looks like! “All I want to do is be with my son,” he said. “I think he’s probably going to torment me on the plane and jump on my lap, and I’ll love every minute. It’s the greatest.”
