Terence Crawford can school Canelo Alvarez – it could be one of the easiest fights of his career.
That’s the view of British icon Amir Khan, who suffered knockout defeats to both of the boxing legends.
Khan was stopped by Canelo during their bout in 2016 for the WBC middleweight titleGetty He also suffered a defeat to Crawford in 2019 – his last world title fightGetty Images - GettyThe 38-year-old made the jump from welterweight to middleweight to take on Mexican star Canelo in 2016.
After a promising start, Khan was knocked out cold after being floored in the sixth round after being caught flush on the chin by a straight right.
The 2004 Olympic silver medallist was then bidding to become the first man to inflict a defeat on Crawford in their 2019 battle for the WBO welterweight title.
But just like in his bout against Canelo, the fight was stopped in the sixth round after his trainer Virgil Hunter threw in the towel.
It’s now Crawford’s turn in jumping up two weight classes to take on Canelo, but Khan is confident the American will emerge victorious against the undisputed super-middleweight champion.
In a recent interview with talkSPORT, Khan gave six reasons as to why he thinks Crawford, who has won all 41 of his bouts inside the squared circle, will defeat Canelo in their upcoming bout on September 13.
Khan highlighted how he thinks Crawford’s combination of skill, power, movement, footwork, boxing IQ and slickness will see him having his hand raised as the winner.
He said: “With Crawford, you’ve got skill, power, and good movement. And he’s very precise with his inches. He works with his inches.
“Honestly, his footwork was amazing. Box IQ, fantastic.
“Whereas with Canelo, I could hit him easier, where with Crawford, I couldn’t hit Crawford that easy. He was very hard, he was very elusive, he was very alert. He was alert to everything.
Khan enjoyed success against Canelo, before being knocked out in the sixth roundGetty The British icon believes Crawford has what it takes to dethrone Canelo“Whereas with Canelo, I could catch him any time I want. And I hit him with some good shots.
“But the thing is, the power Canelo has, nowhere near Crawford has any of that power.”
Khan was then pressed by former European champion Spencer Oliver on whether it is realistic Crawford can jump up two weight to dethrone Canelo.
To which Bolton native remarked: “I think timing wise, it’s perfect.
“Because Canelo is not the fighter he was when I fought him, he’s not the same type of fighter he was then.
“And if you look at his last couple of fights, he does get caught a lot, gets hit a lot.
Canelo and Crawford will square off on September 13 in Las Vegas, live on Netflix“And a good boxer like Crawford could beat him and outbox him, and I think Crawford is not that careless when it comes to the open, clean shot – because he is hard to hit.
“Obviously, I was different, when I put myself in that position, I was very different.
“Because I was the type of fighter that used to have too much balls, and go into war, have too much heart, and I’d get caught.
“And you know you’re going to get caught, but where Crawford is more slick, he will not get caught.
“So if Crawford doesn’t get caught with any of his hard shots, I think Crawford wins the fight easily.”
