You could start this San Diego weekend all freaked out. It is Friday the 13th. But it’s also Father’s Day – and the opening weekend at the San Diego County Fair.
Isn’t that enough goodness to chase the creepy away? Take dad – or grads – to the fair or a host of different fests that celebrate culture, community, cars and more.
The fair’s 2025 “Summer Pet-tacular” theme honors all our furry besties. Attend exhibits that illustrate the theme or head for the wild rides, groove to live tunes and slurp down the crazy caloric concoctions. Weekend highlights include the start of the third annual Fair-tastic Food Competition, at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Toyota Summer Concert Series stops for Maxwell, Zedd and Los Tigres del Norte and the Asian Pacific Islander Festival on Saturday. Everyday fair faves include the petting zoo, racing pigs, stunt dogs and more. For admission, discount info and more of the lowdown, see our fair fun guide.
The Port of San Diego hosts another “Day at the Park: A Port Experience,” this time at Chula Vista Bayfront Park at 11 a.m. Saturday. The fest features local performers, artists, food vendors and kid-friendly activities such as face painting, mini golf and inflatables. Get a load of the nearby new Gaylord Pacific Resort & Convention Center too.
The San Diego Greek Festival begins a two-day stay at Saint Spyridon Greek Orthodox Church in Hillcrest, also at 11 a.m. Saturday. Try Greek food and sip in the Opa! Beer Garden, while watching folk dancers and listening to live music. Join in tours of the church, which is edging close to its centennial. General admission costs $5. Pro tip: shuttles run all day from the nearby San Diego Unified School District lot.
The free music festival Summer Fun on the 101 returns to Leucadia Roadside Park with SUNBENDR, Jared Mattson and Brawley on the all-day bill. Battle of the Bands winner The Long View kicks off the slate at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

The 14th annual San Diego Brew Festival, with dozens of breweries, 200 beers, food trucks, cover bands and lawn games, begins at NTC Park at Liberty Station. Participants for the fest, at 1 p.m. Saturday, include Blue Fire Brewing in San Marcos, Coachella Valley Brewing Co. and Seaward Brewing. Tickets start at $50.
