Thursday evening sees the latest edition of the World Cup of Darts get underway, with England heading to Germany as the defending champions following their victory over Austria in last year’s final.
The top two ranked players in the world team up for the first time with world champion Luke Littler, making his World Cup debut, partnering world number one Luke Humphries.
40 nations will compete in the competition, with the top four ranked teams (all four UK nations) progressing straight through to the second round.
Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton team up once again for Wales as they bid for a repeat of their 2023 success, while 2019 champions Gary Anderson and Peter Wright combine for the Scots again and Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney will be looking to win the competition for the first time for Northern Ireland.
The group stage will take place across Thursday and Friday (all best of seven legs), with the first placed finishers in each of the 12 groups of three progressing through to Saturday’s second round, where the top four seeds will join the competition in a best of 15 leg knockout match.
Sunday will see the quarter finals, semi finals and final take place, all being a race to eight leg format apart from the final which will be a best of 19 match up.
Last year saw England crowned world champions for the first time since Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis won the last of their four titles in 2016, with Luke Humphries and Michael Smith combining to win the World Cup for England in Frankfurt last year.
Last year’s victory saw England pull clear of the Netherlands as the nation with the most victories, though the Dutch side will be without three-time world champion Michael van Gerwen this year, after the 36-year-old opted not to play in this year’s event.
