VISITING a salon to get your hair coloured is a pricey habit.
But there are ways you can still have glorious locks with fewer costly trips to the hairdresser.

STYLE IT OUT: If you get your hair coloured lighter, opting for treatments that blend is a lower-maintenance and budget-friendly choice when you’re sitting in the hairdresser’s chair.
A “root smudge” is a technique that blends a darker shade into the roots for a more seamless transition from natural colour to lighter ends, which will extend the time between salon visits.
“Recession blonde” is another option, which has become more popular this year in response to cost-of-living worries, according to Nicole Petty, from hair extension brand Milk & Blush.
She says: “This is where you skip regular root touch-ups and opt for a lived-in hair look by colouring hair with more muted tones.
“The trend builds on the natural colour as a base while brightening mid-lengths and ends for added dimension without a full head of colour.”
CUT THE WASH: Washing your hair every day is a sure way to quickly fade colour, as well as drying your hair out.
Instead, aim to wash a maximum of three times a week. Try using dry shampoo in between cleaning to cut down on grease.
When you do wash your hair, a quick rinse at the end with cool water can help close cuticles for smooth hair that locks colour in.
DIY DYE: If you’re a brunette, you can reach into your cupboard to revitalise your hair colour with coffee.
Nicole explains: “Try mixing one or two tablespoons of coffee grounds with one or two teaspoons of conditioner, depending on the length of your hair, and apply it to freshly shampooed wet hair.
“Leave this to sit for at least five minutes before rinsing. The coffee should help touch up areas of faded colour, particularly around the ends of the hair where it often fades first.”
