Chelsea have agreed personal terms and submitted an offer of £30million to Borussia Dortmund for Jamie Gittens, talkSPORT understands.
Gittens will sign a seven-year contract at Stamford Bridge if Chelsea and Dortmund are able to thrash out a deal.
AFPIt’s hoped Gittens will be signed in time to play for Chelsea at the Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 14[/caption]talkSPORT understands there’s optimism in the Chelsea camp that the deal will get done with Gittens eager to make the move while Dortmund are keen to sell their player.
The 20-year-old winger is under contract at Dortmund until 2028, however, the Blues’ opening bid falls £5m short of the German club’s valuation of him.
But it’s hoped that the transfer will be completed before June 10, so Gittens will be able to represent Chelsea at the Club World Cup, although a hard deadline hasn’t been placed on this.
A decreased role within Niko Kovac’s side may be the key factor behind a possible exit.
Earlier in the 2024/25 season it seemed likely that Gittens would be a mainstay within the side as he continued to impress.
His performance in a Champions League clash against Real Madrid in October was one of note topped off with a goal.
He became the youngest English player to score against Real Madrid in the Champions League aged 20 years and 75 days.
But 2025 has not been plain sailing for Gittens under Kovac, who became head coach in January.
In 48 games across all competitions he has 12 goals and five assists this campaign.
A move to west London would mark his return to Chelsea, where Gittens briefly spent part of his youth career.
Gittens ranks high as one of the best Under 23 dribblersGettyThe youngster also played for Reading and later the Manchester City youth team until his move to Dortmund in 2020.
Gittens was refined in Germany and made his senior debut aged 17, with each season seeming like he was taking the steps to become a key first-team player.
Chelsea have a wealth of forwards but not necessarily on the left side where he can compete with Pedro Neto and teenager Tyrique George.
