DRIVERS have been advised to settle any auto issues at the DMV before an all-day event shuts down offices for 24 hours.
Several state offices noted that drivers might not be able to use a self-service option either during that time.

The District of Columbia DMV released a calendar of national holidays on which the department will be closed, including June 19, 2025.
Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation also announced a similar list of holidays that will affect DMV operations, which includes Juneteenth.
The agency announced that PennDOT’s Riverfront Office Center location in Harrisburg and Driver License and Photo License Centers statewide will be closed for the holiday.
“If you are planning to visit one of PennDOT’s Online Messenger Service Centers, please call ahead for hours of operation during holidays,” the agency wrote on its website.
In general, drivers who need to access DMV services during holidays are asked to check their state’s DMV website or call the DMV Call Center for assistance.
Drivers can double-check their local DMV offices to see if one of them will be open despite the state closure.
Several DMVs recommend using their online portal for any pressing issues or making certain transactions.
To avoid the hassle, drivers should take advantage of the time they have before the holiday and make a reservation with their respective DMV office as soon as possible.
In previous years, Virginia’s DMV announced that it would close for Juneteenth, but would still allow certain transactions online.
In January 2024, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles announced several holidays for which the department would close.
Drivers would not be able to access the DMV during Martin Luther King Jr. Day, George Washington Day, Memorial Day, and several other holidays, including Juneteenth.
“During these closures and anytime, you can renew your tags, update your address, renew or replace your driver’s license or ID card, in addition to dozens of other services available at dmv.virginia.gov,” the statement read.
“Most transactions take minutes to complete, saving you a trip to a DMV location.”
How to prepare for the DMV
Here are some ways to streamline your DMV experience:
Check the DMV website for your state to see if the task can be done completely online. Many processes can now be done online, like renewing a vehicle’s registration or changing an address. Otherwise, several processes can be started online and finished at an in-person location, like renewing a driver’s license. Schedule an appointment. While walk-ins are available at all locations, having an appointment time can help reduce frustrating wait times. Check the DMV’s website to ensure you have all the necessary forms for the task. Get there early. Since many people prefer to try and tackle simple tasks on their lunch breaks or days off, showing up early can mean you’re only one of a few. Eat before you go or bring a snack. Since wait times can exceed expectations, bring some form of sustenance. Be positive. The process is temporary.“DMV Select offices, mostly run by local governments, primarily process vehicle-related transactions, such as registration renewals, title registrations and license plates.”
The department urged drivers to check the hours of their local DMV because certain locations might operate outside of the state holiday closing schedule.
Five years ago, New York’s DMV also announced that state-run DMV offices would be closed for Juneteenth that year.
As a result, drop boxes in these offices will be unavailable.
The department mentioned that they would resume operations on the following Monday, June 22.
On Juneteenth, federal government offices, schools, the US Postal Service, and the stock market will be closed.
Although many banks will also be closed, ATM services may still be available.
