BCCI president Roger Binny will turn 70 on July 19, 2025. The former World Cup-winning cricketer will no longer be eligible to hold the position, as per the BCCI’s constitution, which follows the National Sports Code. According to the rules, a person ceases to be an office bearer upon attaining the age of 70.
During his tenure, Indian cricket achieved significant milestones. Under his leadership, the national team won two major ICC trophies — the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025. The Men in Blue also reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup but suffered a heartbreaking loss to Australia.
Roger Binny Part of India’s 1983 World Cup-Winning Team
Roger Binny was part of India’s historic 1983 World Cup-winning team, emerging as the tournament’s highest wicket-taker for India with 18 wickets in eight matches. He played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs between 1979 and 1987.
After retiring in 1987, Binny stayed active in cricket administration, serving as president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and as a member of the BCCI selection committee. He also coached India’s Under-19 team to victory in the 2000 ICC World Cup.
Rajeev Shukla to Succeed Roger Binny as BCCI President
Shukla has served as BCCI vice-president since late 2020. Prior to this, he was secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association until 2017 and chaired the Indian Premier League until 2018. Apart from cricket, Shukla is also a Rajya Sabha MP representing the Indian National Congress party.
