(KRON) – A San Francisco restaurant that opened 40 years ago has served its last plate. Fog City Diner announced its permanent closure on Saturday.
The diner-turned-restaurant informed patrons of its closure on its social media. “With a heavy heart, I share some difficult news. Fog City has closed permanently with the last day of service being May 30, 2025,” said the eatery. Fog City went on to thank the patrons for their support.

One customer posted their Fog City leatherman’s jacket with their name embroidered and said, “Say it ain't so!” Another former customer said, “Before I became a resident of SF, I visited in 2000. The first restaurant I went to was Fog City Diner. I fell in love with SF after that beautiful experience.”

Thank you to my amazing staff who made it last as long as it did! We for sure went down swinging and never gave up,” said Maurice.
The restaurant did not give a reason for the abrupt closure.
Fog City opened in 1985 by the founders, Bill Higgins and Bill Upson. The boldly designed eatery was famously known for appearing in the 1993 film “So I Married an Axe Murderer.”
Reopening in 2013, the eatery came back with a more modern design. The cuisine and cocktails were created to be eclectic.
The iconic restaurant was located at 1300 Battery St. near the Embarcadero.
