Dr. Michele Green, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist who has been voted one of New York's best doctors, recommends the skincare routine that she herself follows.

Here, she shares the routine she swears by each day herself for glowing skin over 50.

The 6-Step Daily Routine Dr. Green Recommends for Great Skin at 60+:

In the morning, the first step is using a gentle cleanser to remove oil and build-up thatdeveloped on the skin overnight, she says. After cleansing the skin, a high-quality vitamin C serum can be applied to the full face. Everyone, no matter their skin type or tone, can benefit from vitamin C serum, she says. As an antioxidant, it protects the skin from environmental stress and brightens the skinThe most crucial step is to apply sunscreen. It should have an SPF of at least 30, but ideally, it will be an SPF of 50. Sunscreen should be applied every day, even in the winter and on cloudy days. A lot of patients think that they don't need to use products like sunscreen regularly. This misconception can lead to photo-aging from sun exposure as well as increasing their risk of skin cancer. In the evening, wash your face again with a gentle cleanser. Women who often wear makeup or feel like they need a deeper clean can incorporate a gentle toner into their routine to gently wash away makeup, neutralize sebum, and unclog pores. After cleansing the face, vitamin C serum can be applied again. Vitamin C not only fights oxidative stress during the day, but can also encourage skin regeneration and collagen production, improving the skin's texture and tone overnight.

Dr. Green has developed her own vitamin C serum that she recommends:

6. After the vitamin C serum is applied, you should apply a pea-sized amount of retinol to the full face. Retinol is a vitamin A derivative that offers many anti-aging benefits like reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles as well as minimizing hyperpigmentation to provide smoother, clearer skin.

Dr. Green says you can also do monthly facials to maintain healthy, glowing skin. "My patients enjoy receiving HydraFacials, which is a three-step in-office treatment that leaves patients with clean, hydrated skin. The HydraFacial uses specialized solutions and vortex technology to cleanse the pores and infuse beneficial serums deeply."

Women over 50 can also benefit from a non-invasive treatment called Thermage, performed annually, she says. The Thermage FLX uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen production in the skin. It can be applied to various areas of the body, including the face, neck, abdomen, arms, and legs, to improve the appearance of loose, sagging skin that occurs with aging, she says. The treatment involves no downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activities immediately after the procedure.
