CPK will transform transportation in Poland with the Foster + Partners and Buro Happold-designed new airport, highway upgrades, and 2,000km of high-speed rail.
The goal is to make all major Polish cities no more than 2.5 hours’ travel time away from the new airport, to be sited some 50km west of Warsaw.
Estimated to cost some $1.25bn (PLN5bn), the main terminal will initially accommodate 34 million passengers a year, but can be expanded to handle 44 million without disrupting operations.
Interested contractors must show an annual turnover exceeding $1bn in each of the last four years, relevant experience in the aviation sector, and a Polish-speaking contract director, construction manager and BIM coordinator.
Filip Czernicki, CPK chief executive, said: “This approach to procurement can offer Polish companies an opportunity to replicate a scenario similar to that seen in Spain, which, thanks to significant infrastructure investments partly funded by the EU, has built a strong construction sector.”
Bidding for the airport terminal contract will close on 29 August, with signing expected in 2026. The airport is due to open in 2032.
