In the photos, viewers can see that the driver had covered the broken window with some kind of clear film to protect passengers.
“For anyone who needs a quick $8 temporary window fix on your car just stop at Walmart or Lowe’s get you a window insulation kit,” he wrote.
“It comes with plastic and two way tape. Put it on shrink it down with a hair dryer and boom you have a 80 mile an hour plus window.”
“No flapping. No noise. No worries,” he added.
Dearth emphasized that this is just a temporary fix, but it works well to reduce noise and airflow until he’s able to find a more permanent solution.
The best part is — it only cost him $8.
The driver bought the Frost King V73/3H 42″ x 62″ Clear Indoor Shrink Window Kit (3 Pack) from Walmart, which is now selling for only $6.99.
The product has over 90 ratings on Walmart’s website and has received 4.3 stars.
Dearth’s post received dozens of likes on the social media platform.
Several users said they will be trying out the hack on their own.
“That looks like it worked pretty damn good,” commented one Facebook user.
“I’ve done it a few times. It does work good,” replied another.
“That’s really good to know! “echoed a third.
How to install window insulation kit
Most window insulation kits use window insulation film, which is a clear, oversized plastic that covers a window. Homeowners and drivers often use insulation film as a low-budget solution to stop unwanted airflow.
Window insulation kits use double-sided tape to help the user adhere plastic sheets to the frame they’re trying to secure. Once placed on the frame, the plastic is “shrunk” to fit and adhere to a window.
To successfully shrink the film, the user should use a hair dryer or a similar heat source to properly seal the window.
Other films can be installed simply by applying tape to the surrounding frame and stretching to smooth out any wrinkles.

Although the product isn’t necessarily meant for vehicles, Walmart reviewers said it’s extremely versatile.
“Great item, works seamlessly each season and really helps to keep the heat inside the house. Highly recommend!” one review reads.
“I have purchased this item over the years. It has helped keep the cold out,” wrote another.
“I referred it to a friend and she couldn’t believe the difference in her heating bill.”
“I have been using this stuff for years now, and obviously I consider it to be easy to use, effective for insulating purposes, and the price is right!” said a third.
According to the Walmart website, the product is designed for indoor use, including patio doors and large windows.
Replacing a car window can cost a driver anywhere between $200 and $500, depending on the vehicle type and the labor costs.
