Chelsea are in talks with Jadon Sancho over a new deal that would see them trigger an obligation to buy from Manchester United for £25million, talkSPORT understands.
The Blues want Sancho to stay and to take a pay cut to fit into their incentive-driven structure.
Sancho could extend his stay at Stamford BridgeRexShould terms not be agreed, Chelsea will pay a £5m penalty fee to send Sancho back to United.
News of Chelsea’s Sancho stance comes a day after he scored in the Blues’ 4-1 thrashing of Real Betis in the Conference League final.
The winger fired in Chelsea’s third when he cut in from the left and curled a right-footed attempt past Betis goalkeeper Adrian.
It was Sancho’s fifth goal of the 2024/25 campaign across all competitions as he finished with 15 total goal contributions.
Following Chelsea’s win in Poland, which ensured they became the first club to win every major European trophy, Maresca hinted the winger’s future may lie with the Blues.
“We are going to sit with the club and decide what happens for next year,” Maresca said.
“If we finish fourth it is also because of Jadon, if we win tonight it is also because of Jadon.
“It is normal in a season to go a little bit up and down.”
Prior to the final, Maresca confirmed the club would wait until the end of the campaign before they made any final decision on Sancho.
“I said that when in the last weeks you asked me about different players, I always said the same,” Maresca said.
talkSPORTSancho’s future remains a major talking point going into the summer[/caption]“And the reason why is because it’s the truth.
“It’s not the moment, we have the final. Then in 24 hours, 48 hours, we’re going to start to talk about the future.
“But at this moment, there is not any thought or any decision made on Jadon or any different players.”
Sancho arrived at Stamford Bridge on a season-long loan last summer, with the deal announced almost 24 hours after the window had shut.
The 25-year-old had hoped the temporary switch would reignite his career after a frustrating three years with the Red Devils.
He had registered just 18 goal contributions from 83 league fixtures for United following his £73m arrival from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2021.
Sancho and Ten Hag never quite saw eye-to-eyeGettyAfter falling out with Erik ten Hag, Sancho rejoined Dortmund in January this year, scoring three goals to help the German side on their way to the Champions League final.
Sancho returned to United this summer with Ten Hag stating that the winger would be part of his plans once again.
But with Chelsea now tempted to snap up Sancho on a permanent basis, he could soon put his Old Trafford hell in the rear-view mirror once and for all.
